Approximately 40 percent of workers in Texas lack paid sick time, and low-income and part-time workers are especially unlikely to be covered.
Hard-working Texas families should not have to choose between keeping their job and paying their bills or caring for a child or sick relative.
Where we stand
Working Texans for Paid Sick Time is a broad coalition of Texas-based community and labor organizations who are working together to win paid sick policies in Texas. A strong economy is built on strong families, and earned paid sick time is good for parents and kids. In Texas’s largest cities hundreds of thousands or children live in a household where all parents work. Without earned paid sick time, if a worker gets sick for three days and misses work, the wages they lose can equal a family’s entire grocery budget for a month. No one should have to choose between keeping their job and paying their bills or caring for a sick child or relative. Click here to read the text of the San Antonio ordinance.
